Here an PS2 memory card update:

The Protocol Sniffer

This picture shows my protocol sniffer. The MemoryCard on the top right edge isn't a real memory card. It's just a MemoryCard to SUBD-9 interface. I choosed this because I can use the memory card plug for other test boards, too.

The SUBD-9 is wired 1:1 to the connector on top left. It's the connector for the real memory card. Thanks to Zeljko Vulinovic for sending the slots! This saved a lot of my time.

For snooping controller hardware it's just required to plug the controller into the slot next to the memory card slot of the Playstation or the MultiTap. So there is no need to add a connector for a controller.

On the left bottom side there is a SUBD-25 connector for the Amiga ParallelPort. Depending on the memory card speed it may be possible to use the entire board as PS1/PS2 card reader or card emulation for direct use with the playstation. Currently this port is used to output protocol stuff to the Amiga.

The chip on the board is a small AVR (one chip computer). It snoops the transfer and transfers the results. By reprogramming the optional usage I mentions above is possible.

The other parts are required for processor operation. The LED is for runtime checks, because debugging isn't that easy without any monitoring device.

I just entered the hot phase of the project. The card interface was working perfect and the processor was transmitting data via parallel port.

I was ready to program the first non testing software, when the chip failed. The previews test application is running, but I am not able to reprogram the chip any longer.

Thanks to Murphy I have time, but no second chip. I'll order a few chips, but this takes a while. :(

Well, here some interesting information to get you up again:

It's possible to use any PS2 remote control on Amiga. Just use the PSXPort hardware or build a MemoryCard to Controller interface for your parallelport reader.

The original Sony remote has much more buttons which must be enabled by driver, but with my snooper there is no problem to get all buttons working. BTW: The sony PS2 remote is using the sony standard for home electronics. This means you can use any DVD remote to control your PS2. Even preprogrammed univeral remote controls can be used then set up as Sony DVD remote.

It's also possible to easily find out how the dual shock can be turned on and how the software can turn on the analog mode. This whould be very interesting for the PSXPort project.

Does anyone own a original sony PS2 MultiTap? I bought the BigBen "3 in 1 "Vertical Stand, MultiTap, remote control" system. Which is working perfect, but there is one dislike: The PS2 MultiTap isn't working when using PS1 MultiTap games. Is this happening with the original Sony PS2 MultiTap, too?
